Summary
The Research Associate will conduct and support cell-based bioelectrics research focused on pulsed-electric-field effects on plasma membrane dynamics, electroporation, membrane repair, and related cellular responses. The position emphasizes quantitative live-cell fluorescence microscopy, mammalian cell culture, pulsed-electric-field experiments, and quantitative image analysis. The incumbent will perform experiments using established and project-specific protocols, analyze and document data, maintain cell cultures and laboratory workflows, assist with troubleshooting, and contribute to research reports, figures, presentations, and manuscripts in the PI’s lab in Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics.
Job Responsibilities:
Education and/or training: Bachelor's degree (B.S. or equivalent) in cell biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering, physiology, neuroscience, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a closely related life-science or engineering field.
Level and type of experience: At least two years of hands-on laboratory research experience in cell biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering, or a related experimental life-science field.
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities: Demonstrated hands-on experience with quantitative live-cell fluorescence microscopy is required. Ability to acquire reproducible time-lapse fluorescence data and perform quantitative image analysis; maintain sterile mammalian cell culture; prepare solutions and reagents; follow detailed experimental protocols; maintain accurate laboratory records; troubleshoot routine experimental problems; and communicate results clearly. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively in a research team.
Other: Ability to work on site with biological samples, microscopy instrumentation, and electrical exposure systems; commitment to laboratory safety and reproducible research practices.Duties: Perform all lab managing duties, including ordering and maintaining lab supplies, performing required equipment safety checks and maintenance, cleaning, and assisting research personnel in the preparation and conduction of experiments, including but not limited to maintaining mammalian and bacterial cell cultures, preparing solutions, and conducting experiments and tests as guided by other personnel.This position is being filled through the Research Foundation, which is a separate entity from Old Dominion University (ODU). While we work in support of ODU, the Research Foundation operates independently and is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

Final salary offers may vary depending on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, internal equity, and budget availability.
